An airliner
must be paint stripped at least every five years. Blasted
at low pressure, abrasive media are an alternative to chemicals
strippers. Chemicals pose different problems such as waste
retreatment, water consumption, working conditions, compliancy
with new environmental rules, damage on PR seals, and finally
price. Usually used abrasive media, as plastic or glass, cannot
be blasted on most of aeronautical

materials
because
they damage the substrate surface,
especially on composite materials. Today, there is no satisfying
technical solution for paint stripping composite materials
: Chemical products are not allowed, because of their actions
on composite resin. As a result, aeronautical composite materials
are hand sanded. BIODECAP media physical properties allow
to strip composite or metallic.
